"The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
Of course, Proust was not referring to physical landscapes but to the landscape of our personal reality, our self-image and world view that we call “the truth.”
Implied in this statement is that we are the observer of our self-image and world view. This fact gives us a great deal of power most of us didn’t know we had.
Ontological coaching is primarily focused on shifting the observer that you are so that you can see yourself, your thinking, your views of the world with far more options and opportunities than you’ve seen in the past.
You will be seeing yourself and your world as though with new eyes.
Ontological coaching begins a process of examining your unconscious theories of being, both who you are and how the world works.
The coach will assist you to delve into your unconscious psyche to uncover and explore the sources of your beliefs and presuppositions. These are the influences left over from the previous generations who formed you into the adult that you are.
These are the influences that shape your self-identity today and the confirmation and disconfirmation biases that keep the beliefs and presuppositions intact.
Ontological coaching will begin the process of reconciliation. That reconciliation of making friends with those beliefs and suppositions that serve you well today. And the deconstruction and elimination of those that don’t.
It is a rigorous journey not to be taken lightly. Not everyone can take this journey. But if you do, you will understand the power of taking full responsibility for your life.
As Jung said, “until you make the unconscious conscious, it will lead your life and you will call it fate.”
